You couldn't wipe the smile off Jannette Burn's face when she was reunited with her husband and son last week after months in lockdown.
Mrs Burn, 81, a resident of Moran aged care centre at Engadine, was beyond excited to be reunited with her husband of 59 years, Billy, last Monday morning, and give him his birthday present.
Moran Homes began welcoming back visitors on Monday, October 11, the same day Sydney came out of lockdown.
"It has been a hard long wait and I am so happy to see Billy again," Mrs Burn said.
"We have been inseparable since we met as 15 and 17-year-olds in 1954 on the train coming back from the coal miners' picnic in Helensburgh."
Their son John, a teacher at Woolooware High School, said while lockdown had been hard on everyone, it had been particularly difficult for his parents.
"Mum has proven that you are never too old to learn new skills and has become bit of a Facetime expert during this period," he said.
Mrs Burn said when she was feeling a bit low or sad during lockdown, she would reminisce about trips to their beach shack at Little Garie and the many campervan adventures she and Billy had enjoyed.
Mrs Burn was among the first Moran Engadine residents to receive COVID-19 vaccination in May this year, and now restrictions have lifted, she is happy she will be able to once again have regular visitors.
She is also looking forward to celebrating her 82nd birthday on October 28.
Daughter-in-law Leanne, a hairdresser, will come to the aged care centre to do her hair to make sure she is looking her best before she attends a morning tea celebration at Café Chill, Engadine.
