Permaculture expert and author, Hannah Moloney will explain how to cultivate an urban garden and grow community ties when she appears in the Growing a Greener Bayside webinar on Thursday, November 4 at 7.30pm.
Hannah is the author of the new book, The Good Life: How to grow a better world.
Based in Hobart, Hannah is a permaculture landscape designer, educator and activist and is a presenter on the national TV show Gardening Australia.
Her new book is based on the philosophy that a good life is one built around community and sustainability.
In The Good Life, she shares her inspiration and practical advice on how to happily and sustainably from growing your own tea, to building a DIY water tank, making yoghurt and co-housing.
The theme of the seminar is How to Reactive an Urban Garden and is being presented by a Peaceful Bayside.
"Hannah has just released a successful book, and she has a specialist knowledge about creating a greener urban, climate safe future that is transferable to Bayside," Peaceful Bayside Founder and Lead Candidate for the local government elections, Heidi Lee Douglas said.
"Not all nature lovers understand that we have to make cities part of the solution", Heidi said.
"Peaceful Bayside will also be releasing our green spaces and climate action policy at the webinar, which we think is very important to Bayside.
"We have a plague of synthetic fields here and as a soccer mum to two young boys they really concern me.
"Plus we have the lowest tree canopy coverage, and one of the lowest open spaces areas available per-capita of any local government area in NSW.
"All this adds up to a dire legacy that really needs to be addressed in the face of global warming", said Heidi.
"Urban green and open spaces are good for our mental health, and tree coverage cools our homes. It's why we proposed a Significant Tree Policy to Bayside Council, to align with other Councils in Sydney. We also lack green waste bins and FOGO - food and organics and garden organics recycling. In many ways we are stuck in the 1980's here in Bayside and desperately need to get up to speed with the rest of Sydney", Peaceful Bayside Policy Officer Taylor Brooke said.
