Seniors have the chance to attend a free movie at Hoyts Cronulla and enjoy a Choc Top to boot as part of Sutherland Shire Council's Seniors Christmas Festival program.
The program will celebrate the valuable contributions of seniors, reconnecting those who are able to get out and about and providing festive entertainment in aged care facilities.
Seniors can book tickets to view one of two new film releases, Off The Rails or Best Sellers, at Hoyts Cronulla between November 29 and December 3.
The council says there are limited places for both films. Tickets can be booked online via: seniors-lets-get-festivemovies.eventbrite.com.au
Residents of aged care facilities will be treated to pop-up concerts, including musical performances from acclaimed shire performers Louise Butler and Lachlan O'Brien.
"After our recent challenges, I am really excited to perform for such important and inspirational people in our community," Ms Butler said.
"It is a perfect time to regroup and embrace our community spirit again and what better way to do this than in song and laughter."
In another council initiative, a specially designed Hazelhurst Christmas card will be distributed in collaboration with aged care facilities, Activus Transport, Meals on Wheels and community centres to the homes of senior residents across the community.
Mayor Steve Simpson said, "It's a special time of year, particularly after the challenges we've faced together as a community, and this program enables us to reach out to seniors all over the community and gift them something special".
