At last common sense has prevailed on the Heathcote East parking station project, thanks to the Leader and community groups for their tremendous effort in stopping it.
IF the minister for cutting ribbons Lee Evans wants to do something constructive for his Heathcote electorate, spend the parking station money on updating and widening the old Heathcote East bridge.
A win, win all round for Heathcote East residents and the Liberal Party may even get back in favour with its voters.
R.Clarke, Heathcote.
Time to hang up the boots, Lee
Regarding Lee Evans' Comments Leader Nov 24.
"It's too contentious, too hard and I am too old in the tooth to put up with this "
Surely the voters in the Heathcote electorate deserve better than this politician.
Time to hang up the boots, Mr Evans.

Yes man
Lee Evans has already failed to deliver on the Heathcote Road widening after nine years in the job, and after supporting the idea to further congest the East Heathcote precinct with a 250 space car park, he has now backed down.
Is Lee Evans the local member who advocates for the needs of his local constituents, or is he just the yes man for the Liberal government.
Let's not forget the debacle of Eleni Petinos, the suburb of Janalli and trying to resume peoples houses for the same car park.

How to vote cards
We have received several "how to vote" cards from the various political parties in our Ward. Apart from not wanting 'party politics' in local government, none have said anything about the development, particularly home units that are a blight on the Shire. The services, road, water and public transport seem to be overwhelmed.
Our local members seem to do nothing, no matter the political party they belong to and we cannot expect the councillors to do anything different. Not to mention the blight of 'railway car parks', which the council appears to do nothing about except to cry crocodile tears.

Praise for Cronulla Library
How fabulous is Cronulla Library! My son is in Year 12 studying for his HSC and Cronulla Library has been amazing! After four months of homeschooling and online learning, it's challenging to keep focus and motivated. He rarely used Cronulla Library until the last month or so. He has now been going regularly to study and they have provided students with fruit, pizzas, lollies, genuine kindness, and never-ending support. They have been a god-send to support these kids and I am so grateful. They have honestly made such a difference to the Year 12 kids studying there. They have gone above and beyond and what they have done has not gone unnoticed. Thanks so much, Cronulla Library. You are all awesome.

I'll vote for Steele
So excited and proud to see the launch of Georgia Steele's campaign for the Federal seat of Hughes. Georgia is down to earth, levelheaded with a brilliant mind and brilliant platforms that have the real potential to raise the profile of Hughes's electorate and bring back integrity to the area. Georgia and I met and became friends while recently undertaking UNSW's Pathway to Politics for Women course (a selective course for women considering a political career and the inaugural one for NSW). It's absolutely wonderful and so encouraging to see alumni of that course stepping up for their communities and overcoming the considerable barriers women face in taking that step. Georgia's been very supportive of my efforts to win a seat on the Liverpool council as an independent, and I look forward to cheering her on throughout her campaign. I cannot think of a more able and suitable candidate.

Greedy humanity causing climate change
Everyone seems to have their own ideas on Climate Change, well here's mine - MOTHER NATURE cannot be bribed, all the money in the world won't satisfy her, she is sick and tired of humans destroying what she created, like cutting down forests around the globe that had a purpose on our environment, especially the deforestation of rain forests in the Amazon and across the world which was needed for our ecosystem. Homes are now built with no open space for gardens or grass. When did you last see a bee? I had bumblebees under my house for years. They are now gone. In my little street, before developers moved in, every house was built back behind existing trees with lawns/gardens, including grassed footpaths and grassed back yards. Now we have no such beauty, just garden gnomes (cars) parked in the street and duplexes built nearly to the footpath, all looking the same, no individuality, all square boxes. As the aged, let's call them "The pioneers of Sutherland Shire", leave their homes, more & more of these unsightly (so-called affordable duplexes) will be built and sold for one million-plus each, on a quarter acre block where once stood a house with gardens etc. AND off-street parking. Coal is not the problem for climate change. It is the greed of man and man alone the world over.

Yes, the Shire is not helping climate change
In response to 'Shire is not helping climate change, in last weeks Leader. I couldn't have said it better, Shirley Evans. Many of us agree with precisely what you said. The Shire Council needs to stop the developers from cutting down trees and building ugly cement boxes (which they are calling duplexes and apartments) and retain the trees instead. They should also do some extra beautification by planting colourful native trees and shrubs around the Shire, especially in reserves and parks. The current reserves are greatly lacking in much-needed gardens, especially in South Caringbah.

Highway improvement
When are they ever going to finish the roadworks at Kirrawee/Sutherland? Slow as. It must be about five years ago they started.
