The Georges River Art Prize 2021 is open and ready to be admired.
The winners were announced recently and were selected from more than 350 entries from across Australia.
A significant cultural event for the community, the prize had an increase of more than 15 per cent of entries since its last one in 2019.
Impressed by the calibre and diversity of entries across all the categories were the three judges including Curatorial and Arts Management Specialist Alison Clark, Director of Art Atrium Simon Chan, and Figurative Painter Steve Lopes.
This year's top prize went to Stuart Watters for his painting, 'Cruel Summer'. The overall Georges River Art Prize category saw the Australian landscape featured prominently.
Jayanto Tan took out the Georges River Sculpture Prize for his colourful, ceramic tribute to Indonesian food - Potluck party (Jajan Pasar Street sweet delicacies).
For a painting titled 'A blissful moment in a chaotic world', Noor Shadood received the Georges River Local Artist Prize and a solo exhibition at Hurstville Museum and Gallery in 2022.
Works of art are on display until January 20.
The Georges River Art Prize, Local Artist and Sculpture Prize are on exhibition at Hurstville Museum and Gallery and via a virtual experience on the council's website.
The Georges River Youth Prize and Little Artist Prize are at Clive James Library and Service Centre, Kogarah.
All visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to vote for their favourite artists. Those with the most votes will receive the People's Choice Prize and Favourite Young Artist Prize, which will be announced online on January 10.
