An $800,000 upgrade of Elouera Surf Life Saving Club includes more change room space for female members and improved accessibility for nippers with special needs.
The completion of the project was celebrated at a function attended by state MPs Mark Speakman and Eleni Petinos, Sutherland Shire mayor Steve Simpson on his last day in office and chief executive of Surf Life Saving NSW Stephen Pearce.
The state government provided $300,000 for the works through the Surf Club Facility Program, which assists surf life saving clubs across NSW to upgrade, restore and construct facilities.
A further $20,000 was allocated through the Community Building Partnership program, which funds local community groups to improve their facilities.
Mr Speakman said surf lifesaving volunteers were committed to protecting the community, and it was important they had fit-for-purpose facilities.
"Club volunteers will benefit from improved amenities, training room, administration office, first aid room and gymnasium," he said.
"The upgrade will help the club's efforts to be inclusive for everyone, doubling the size of female amenities to provide more change room space for mums and children participating in the club's programs.
"There have also been improvements to accessible change rooms, which will make it easier for special needs nippers to participate."
Club president David Kowald said the refurbishment was "a first class result for our members and for our community".
"The refurbishment would not have been possible without the generous support from the NSW Government, Department of Communities and Justice, Department of Sport, Surf Life Saving NSW and our own members," he said.
"Sutherland Shire Council also assisted by replacing all five of the roller doors providing access to Elouera's community storage areas.
"Thanks also go out to our builder TL Building, who guided us through the design and approvals stage, kept the program on track through construction and lockdown restrictions, and produced what is an excellent result."
The state government has allocated $4 million for the next round of the Surf Club Facility Program, which is open to applications from surf clubs.
