Singers and aspiring poets, it's your time to shine.
Georges River Council is inviting poets and performers to participate in an upcoming event.
Suited for lyricists looking to combine their passions for music and writing, Jazz Poetry is a literary genre defined as poetry informed by jazz music. In other words, poetry that has a jazz-like rhythm, syncopation, the feel of improvisation, or that takes jazz music as its subject.
Selected individuals or groups will have the opportunity to perform their piece to a live audience with intermission performances from live jazz musicians.
The Jazz Poetry performance is on February 24 and Clive James Library, Kogarah at 7pm.
Throughout 2022, different events will take place across the council's libraries to reignite and support the community cultural scene and nightlife.
"Local entertainment and culture is an important part of a welcoming community. At Georges River, we are proud to have a rich calendar of artistic and cultural events that connect local residents and visitors from across Sydney," Georges River Council General Manager Gail Connolly said.
"I encourage community members interested in music or any aspiring poets to participate in our Jazz Poetry event and be at the forefront of our local cultural scene."
Expressions of Interest close January 4.
