It was a happy ending for a fluffy brood of ducklings this week, when they were rescued from a stormwater drain at Kingsgrove.
Kingsgrove resident Lucinda was driving along Monaro Avenue where she saw a mother duck quacking loudly and pacing back and forth across the busy road.
The driver pulled over to see the duck moving frantically between two drains on opposite sides of the street.
After alerting other drivers to slow down, Lucinda contacted WIRES to assist, but time was running out.
With rain clouds looming above, Lucinda, and other nearby residents, were able to winch the nine frightened ducklings out, with a fishing net and a pair of quick hands.
They were placed in a box alongside their mother in a separate box, and reunited at their new watery home at a nearby creek.
