The popular pathway through Scarborough Park has been closed for the next five weeks.
Temporary fencing has been installed in Scarborough Park to allow workers to safely remove some vegetation in preparation for the construction of a new shared cycle and pedestrian pathway.
It's expected this work will take approximately five weeks to complete, after which the fencing will be removed.
"Towards the middle of the year, temporary fencing will be installed again as construction of the shared bicycle and pedestrian pathway commences," a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
The M6 Stage 1 project includes an active transport corridor incorporating a new shared cyclist and pedestrian pathway and a pedestrian bridge across President Avenue.
"The new shared pathway will expand the existing active transport network, providing the local community with connectivity from Bestic Street in Brighton-Le-Sands through Bicentennial Park and continuing south through Scarborough Park," the spokesperson said.
"The design of the pathway has now been extended south to O'Connell Street in Kogarah, providing even more connections to existing shared pathways."
Transport for NSW said local residents have been notified of the work in Scarborough Park through a notification delivered to their letterbox and public signage on the temporary fencing.
The notification is also available of the M6 Stage 1 portal here - https://media.caapp.com.au/pdf/erb0gl/3121c6c3-001e-4b24-95c3-1034bfa9c951/Scarborough%20Park%20vegetation%20removal%20and%20traffic%20control%20January%20to%20February%202022.pdf.
