Besmaw's managing director Phillip Holt is wrong to say the 2000 new homes he wants to build on the Kurnell peninsula are on land that won't be adversely affected by aircraft noise (Leader, April 3).
To the contrary, the several thousand residents living in those homes would be affected by noise every night of the week.
This is because this land is unique in Sydney. It is the only land affected by aircraft noise both during the day and, more particularly, at night between 11pm and 6am. The noise level produced by the overnight freight and other aircraft using this flight path is loud enough to wake residents.
Sydney Airport is keen to ensure that noise impacts on residents in the Sutherland Shire - where many of the 28,000 people who work at the airport live - are minimised.
Sydney Airport fully supports rezoning of this land for industrial, employment and recreational uses.
However, residential development is entirely inappropriate.
