THE WestConnex motorway could be completed 18 months earlier than expected following the allocation of extra funding in the federal budget.
Banks MP David Coleman said the announcement of a $2 billion concessional loan to the state government was "great news" for people in his electorate.
"This loan is expected to bring stage two of the WestConnex project forward by 18 months, with the project completed by the end of the decade," he said.
Mr Coleman said peak period journeys from King Georges Road to the city would be reduced by 25 minutes once the M5 east duplication part of the project was in place.
The M5 East will be widened to four lanes between King Georges Road and Bexley Road, from where a new six-kilometre tunnel will be built to St Peters and Sydney Airport.
State MP for Oatley Mark Coure said WestConnex would deliver much-needed relief from congestion for the 100,000 motorists who use the M5 East every day.
