Approved pool a compromise
Re "Pool gets go-ahead" (Leader, December 9).
I have only recently moved to the Rockdale local government area, but my understanding is that there was overwhelming community support and financially sound reasons (i.e. the pool being financially self-sustainable) for the "Dubai-style" aquatic centre from residents and that the wishes of the people have effectively been ignored by this compromise.
Getting the pool built is a "sort-of" win, but I find it somewhat galling to read Cr Bezic's view that the approval as given benefits the electorate. The same councillor who failed to attend key council meetings to approve the development — thereby blocking the approval — until pressured by residents and the media.
Getting anything approved is a credit to the Labor and independent councillors of Rockdale and the many residents who protested.
