ANOTHER chapter has been added in the almanac of Bexley Golf Club's 76-year illustrious history.
Bexley Golf Club stalwart player Terry Booker said they believe they have the youngest and oldest player in the club's pennants team in the Golf NSW competition.
Booker said Jeffrey Guan, 10, of Bexley, last Sunday took to the greens and fairways as a member of the eight-man pennants team alongside Tom Yates, 70, of Oatley, at Bexley Golf Course against Kareela.
Yates said Jeffrey played well in his pennants debut and defeated his opponent 3-1 under matchplay conditions.
Booker said that Golf NSW had searched the record books to determine if Jeffrey was the youngest-ever pennants player.
"Golf NSW told us they don't have official records of players' ages on their books, only if they are left-handers or right-handers," Booker said.
"But we told Golf NSW that we believe he is the youngest to play pennants for Bexley."
Jeffrey started hitting golf balls at four around Bexley and his father, Ken, has become his main golf instructor, with Bexley Golf Club professional Paul Davis also lending a hand with Jeffrey's short game.
"Paul helps me with my short game," Jeffrey said.
"I like playing golf, it's fun."
And everyone agrees that the most important thing for Jeffrey to keep in mind was keep enjoying the game.
"Jeffrey did well in his debut and after he finishes golf he goes back to being a 10-year-old boy who enjoys life and has fun," Yates said.
