ST George-Sutherland Women’s first grade cricket team defeated Penrith by four wickets on Sunday at Glenn McGrath Oval, Caringbah.
The Slayers defeated Penrith, scoring 6-173 in reply to Penrith’s 172.
Australian player bowler Rene Farrell took 4/19 in an outstanding display of swing and pace bowling.
Farrell, 27, of Riverwood, toppled the Penrith batters with her speed and swing to help bring victory to the Slayers.
Nicole Carey top-scored for the first grade team with 39. Annie Watson was next best with 37. Carey has been in great form this summer scoring 345 runs at 38.3 a game.
Over in St George, the Slayers second grade team thrashed Gordon by six wickets in their one-day game on Sunday at Harold Fraser Oval, Carss Park.
Dismissing Gordon for just 63, Mikaela Fallins took 3/9 and spin bowler Jaclyn Vickery finished with 3/15. The Slayers cruised to victory, scoring 4-65 with Jo Kelly 28 not out and Georgia Reid not out on 21.
Third grade had a bye and the Brewer Shield round was cancelled because of a representative carnival.
Slayers player Leisa Johns said it was a good weekend for the club.
