I go out each year in pretty much the same spot.
Head off from Swallow Rock, up the Port Hacking and if you draw a line from Jibbon point to Cape Solander, just 200 metres west from there you will see whales, there are so many out there.
The trick is just keep scanning the horizon and you will spot the 'blow' and they are usually travelling in pairs.
I have taken hundreds of photos over the last seven years, give them plenty of room and you can travel parallel with them up the coast.
I think that are are as happy to see us as we are to see them!
These photos were taken in last year's migration North.
I did photograph some whales here two weeks ago but the images aren't as clear because it was overcast and drizzle.
Has to be a nice day on the water to have the best experience!
