Yes, you guessed it - no surf today, just like yesterday and tomorrow.
The 1ft E/SEast swell we have had over the last couple of days is still here, but after a couple of days of that, it's pretty hard to keep paddling out.
There is a little peak in the middle of North Cronulla but it's desperates only.
The forecast is also bleak, with maybe a little NEast swell due after some Nor East wind action that’s due.
But in the real surfing world-Kauai's Sebastian Zietz, 24, has posted the first major win of his five-year pro surfing career at the REEF Hawaiian Pro today to qualify for the 2013 elite ASP World Tour. Accounting for talent like John John Florence (HAW), Sunny Garcia (HAW), Julian Wilson (AUS) and Alejo Muniz (BRZ) along the way, Zietz earned $40,000 in prize money and now leads the 30th anniversary Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series ratings. Conditions today were super contestable with long, overhead waves that allowed maximum scoring potential.
In China, Harley Ingleby of Australia (Coff's Harbour), defeated USA surfer Robert Weaver in round 2 of the 2012 CITIC PACIFIC ShenZhou Peninsula Pro in China - Ingleby is a former Longboard world champion (2009) and is one of the favourites to win again here in China - This is the only ASP World Men's Longboard Title event for 2012 and will decide the world longboarding champion.
This is after the women's where Kelia Moniz is the new ASP Women’s Longboard World Champion after winning the Swatch girls Pro China 2012 hosted by Wanning in 2-3ft surf. In a repeat of last year’s final, Kelia faced off against Australia’s Chelsea Williams, the defending event champion
Some of Australia’s best junior surfers will be fighting it out when the Soundwave Australian Junior Titles kicks off at Nubeena, Tasmania on the 2nd of December. Good luck to Jared Hickel ,Paris Whittaker and Kalani Ball who are our local reps.
Surfing Australia’s 50th Anniversary celebrations were officially launched last week by Acting Prime Minister, Treasurer Wayne Swan at Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club in Sydney.
Surfing Australia was established in 1963 as the Australian Surfriders Association and next year will celebrate its 50th Anniversary.
To commemorate the milestone, Surfing Australia has planned a series of important initiatives culminating in next year’s Australian Surfing Awards incorporating the Hall of Fame in Sydney in February.
Last week's event included the launch of the book Surfing Australia: a complete history of Surfboard Riding in Australia written by Phil Jarratt; the release of a collector’s coin in partnership with the Royal Australian Mint; announcement of an in-circulation stamp in partnership with Australia Post; and the announcement of a special initiative to name Australia’s 10 Most Influential Surfers 1963-2013.
If your name is going to be on this list, congratulations ,but I think there won’t be too many locals worrying the scorers- Occy and Bobby Brown? Maybe-or Barry Tyte and Craig Naylor - the possibilities are endless.
Anyway no surf till next week so go skateboarding or paddleboarding etc etc
