MICHAEL William Maroney, better known as the popular Sutherland Shire swim coach and age group triathlon champion "Mick" Maroney, is a worthy recipient of the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the Australia Day honours list.
Dr Maroney, now an influential new member on the board of Triathlon Australia, was honoured for his long service to the sport of athletics, particularly triathlon where he has won numerous world age titles and has set new benchmarks.
He was also a driving force behind honouring his own late brother and former triathlete, Sean Maroney, by running the annual 000 Sean Maroney Aquathlon.
