Hurstville Private Hospital urologist Paul Cozzi has written a free book — Understanding the Prostate and Prostate Cancer — to guide men through the process.
Associate Professor Cozzi, from Urology Sydney, said the book covered various topics including prostate-friendly foods and prostate specific antigen (PSA) tests.
"Men need to be aware that no two prostate cancers are alike," he said.
"Some can be aggressive, others are slow growing.
"Men also need to know that prostate cancer is not just an old man's disease and a man may have prostate cancer without experiencing symptoms."
Rugby league commentator Darryl Brohman was 53 when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010.
He said reading the book could help save a man's life.
