Schools Minister Peter Garrett was there to challenge the year 6 pupil to an academic battle.
His visit was to promote digital education.
Mr Garrett took on Tabby to a "best out of three" in the Mathletics competition and in the Spellodrome contest.
Each of the 60-second rounds of maths quizzes increased in difficulty, but Tabby kept his cool in the contest that tested his — and Mr Garrett's — literacy and numeracy skills.
The result?
Tabby: 65, Mr Garret: 49.
A stumped Mr Garrett lost all three rounds in the maths quiz, and bombed out in the spelling challenge.
"He's one of those quiet achievers," Tabby's teacher, Helen Gazis, said.
"He's very humble, but he did very well."
