SHIRE Elite Cheerleading started their competitive season by collecting seven trophies during the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF) NSW Winterfest Cheer and Dance Championships.
Squad co-captain Lauren Wilson said they were there along with more than 90 other cheer and dance teams who wanted to prove who was the best.
"Don't be mistaken, these cheerleaders weren't those standing on the sideline waving their pom-poms," Wilson said.
"These young athletes spend hours of their free time working to perfect elite stunts, jumps, dance and tumbling skills," she said.
Shire Elite cheer and dance squads won seven trophies including: first place in open cheer level two co-ed, junior cheer level one and open group stunt level two co-ed, second place in junior partner stunt level one, and third places in junior partner stunt level one, junior group stunt level one, and open pom.
Wilson said each squad pulled off outstanding performances.
"They hit almost every stunt and tumbling pass, showing that commitment, team work and training hard really does pay off when it comes to comp season," she said.
The squads are now preparing for their state championships in September.
