THE sensuous Argentinian tango has come to a church hall near you, courtesy of Pablo Lara.
"Yes, there is very close contact between the partners; it is an embrace," Mr Lara said.
"The man leads, the woman follows and closes her eyes, she relies entirely on her senses for the journey.
"I am passionate about bringing the Argentinian tango to the south side of Sydney.
"I want to bring people to be able to learn the culture, the music and the history by teaching absolute beginners.
"The tango in South America, in Uruquay and Argentina, is part of the ethos of the people and does much to define the culture as the footy, soccer."
The dance allows people to express themselves and it was the dance that people in South American countries often did from the time they were aged seven or eight and continued to do until they were about 70 years old, Mr Lara said.
The dance was part of extra-curricular activities for those in high school.
The Hollywood stereotype was where a woman danced with a rose stem clutched between her teeth.
The classes at Sutherland fall in two tiers, 8pm-9pm for the classes; 9pm-10pm is practise time.
Argentinian tango classes are St John's Anglican Church hall, corner of Belmont and Flora streets, Sutherland, Thursdays from 8pm-10pm for $13, or $10 for practice time only.
