St George and Sutherland Shire students were among the top in state of the NSW Board of Studies HSC First in Course awards this year.

The annuals awards held today at Australian Technology Park, Eveleigh, recognised 121 students who excelled in 112 courses.
The awards acknowledge the highest achieving student in each HSC course where the result is in the highest possible band for that course.
Girls outperformed the boys this year, with 83 girls and 38 boys on the merit list.
Recipients included Larissa Grinsell from De La Salle Senior College Cronulla for studies of religion 2, Rhonda Douroukis from George River College Oatley Senior Campus for modern greek beginners, Jonathan Andrew Hopkins from Sydney Technical High School for physics, Claudia Saab from Sydney Institute St George College for human services examination, Natalie Betteridge from St Patrick’s College Sutherland for retail services examination and Yuan Gao from Kogarah High School's Saturday School of Community Languages for Chinese Background Speakers (who was absent from the photo).
This year also marked the first examination of the Financial Services course, which was designed to provide students with skills and knowledge to secure a job or higher level education.
Yongxin (Cindy) Feng of Beverly Hills High School came first in that course.
Monterey's Yuan (Angela) Gao who studied at Kogarah High School’s Saturday School of Community Languages was the first in course recipient for Chinese Background Speakers.
More than 70,000 students will receive their results from 6am tomorrow.
Results are available online and by SMS using a secure system requiring a student number and HSC PIN.
The Board of Studies HSC results inquiry centre will be open from 9am for students with questions about their HSC results.
