Even Botany Bay was ‘‘going off’’, with metre-high waves sending water crashing over the sea wall between Ramsgate and Dolls Point.
Emerson and Indiana Carroll, of Sans Souci, were enjoying the spectacle when they got a bit too close and paid the price.
Swells generated by Cyclone Ita also made for big surf at Cronulla’s beaches over the weekend.
