My recent experience with a residential development in Sutherland Shire requires me to warn ratepayers of the need to be ever-vigilant of any development in their neighbourhood, especially if the services of a private certifier are used.

Gone are the days when one could rely on council inspectors controlling construction and ensuring adherence to approved specifications and maintaining a high standard of development.
Sutherland Shire Council has, in my experience, shown reluctance to have departures from specifications rectified and has seen fit to approve amended plans after contraventions were made.
What is to become of our beautiful shire if private certifiers are allowed to continue ignoring the terms of council-approved specifications?
Ratepayers be warned: Sutherland Shire Council and its councillors are ineffective in such situations!
I encourage all who are to have a development adjacent to or near their property "supervised" by a private certifier to be ever-alert to breaches.
Immediately they become aware of any contravention I would suggest they make strong representations to the certifier and to his licensing authority.
