MEMBERS of Engadine Church of Christ will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its foundation this Saturday and Sunday.
There will be a review of the first 40 years of the church at 7pm this Saturday followed by talks by several past ministers, including the first full-time minister, Graham Warne.
A celebration service and a review of the past 10 years of the church's history by Pastor Lionel Berthelsen and Pastor Adam Stewart will be at 9.30am this Sunday.
The church was established July 4, 1964, in an Engadine garage by foundation congregation member, Ian Dudman.
It was supported by the Church of Christ congregations at Caringbah, Hurstville, Bexley North, Rockdale and Beverly Hills.
The church bought three blocks of land in Woronora Road for £5250 ($10,500) which the five congregations helped in paying.
The church was built in June 1966 for £8400 ($16,000); the manse was built in 1968.
The church established a preschool on-site in 1974, which still operates.
Pastor Glenn Baigent describes the church as a friendly, welcoming, family church with a playground ministry, a youth ministry and visiting ministers in schools program.
The church is actively involved in the annual Clean Up Australia Day and is involved with the community carols at Woronora Heights.
Mr Baigent said former congregation members or anyone associated with the church was welcome to attend.
