TRACK sprinters Jake Hammond and Ella Nelson are primed to do their best at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, which opened this morning.
The first action is at the pool tonight.
Hammond, 22, and Nelson, 20, have been training together for several years. Glasgow 2014 marks their Games debut.
The pair started in Little Athletics at Sutherland when they were six.
Nelson is running in the 200 metres and the women's 4 x 100m metres relay; Hammond is competing in the men's 4 x 100m relay.
Both athletes are coached by Michael Dooley.
In Little Athletics, Hammond ran for Engadine and Nelson for Heathcote at Sutherland Oval.
Hammond left Engadine in the under-13s to run for Port Hacking Little Athletics Club, where he began training under Dooley. At the completion of Little Athletics, Hammond and Nelson joined Illawong Athletics Club.
They represented Australia in 2010 in the World Junior Championships in Canada and this year's World Relay Championships in May in the Bahamas.
Are Jake and Ella genuine medal chances at the games?
