OWEN Shelley, who died on Saturday, August 2, lived to serve Jesus Christ and to share the good news of salvation to thousands of children.
Mr Shelley, 87, (pictured) was a children's missioner with Scripture Union for more than 30 years.
Throughout this time he was a pioneer in using the technology of the day — overhead projectors in the early days — to share his religion with thousands of children throughout NSW.
In recent years he partnered up with his son, Stephen, to create ministry resources suitable for use in the new digital age.
Stephen was a Christian school teacher for 11 years in Sydney's west and is now the technology manager at Sydney Girls High School where his role includes teaching teachers how to use technology with their classes.
Working together as Shelley and Son, father and son produced a variety of resources that have been designed to be used with data projectors and interactive whiteboards.
Mr Shelley was still working on their latest project, updating the A to Z of Ministry with Children, the night before he died.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Daphne, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all members of the family.
"He was commenting the night before he died how fortunate he has been that he has never lost any of his children," Stephen said.
"We have now lost him but are comforted by the knowledge that he is now with his Lord. Doctors believe he died of heart failure."
A memorial service will be held at 2pm, August 12, at Narwee Baptist Church, 33-39 Baumans Road, Peakhurst.
