POLICE have raided homes at Belmont North and Waratah on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into the discovery of 50 kilograms of explosive materials and crudely drawn maps of Sydney and Newcastle in a Brisbane property.
The Newcastle Herald reported on Wednesday that Queensland police were looking into whether convicted firebomber Daniel Fing was planning to detonate a bomb at Sandgate after finding the suspicious items on a property at Pullenvale, south-west of Brisbane.
eavily armed police descended on a home in Lorna Street, Waratah about 9.20am, surrounding the premises and calling for any occupants to come outside.
A woman, believed to be Mr Fing's former partner, is believed to live at the residence.
Police searched the home for more than an hour before leaving.
A few hours earlier it's believed police arrived at the Fing family home in Marian Place, Belmont North.
The front gates to the home appear to have been damaged during the raid, either on Wednesday morning or on Tuesday night. Detectives have been coming and going throughout the day.
Neighbours have been, so far, hesitant to comment.
Mr Fing is in custody in NSW on unrelated matters.
