JEREMY Jin, 10, of Kogarah, is fast emerging as one of the St George brightest prospects in junior tennis.
The youngster who trains at Illawarra Tennis Centre, Rockdale, recently returned from a Tennis Australia training camp for under-10 boys on the Gold Coast.
The top 16 players in his age group were invited. Jeremy said training at the camp was educational for his tennis.
He is ranked No. 1 in the 11 years and under junior development series. Jeremy also was rated the No. 1 player as a member of the winning junior team in the recently held Super 10s tournament.
Jeremy's coach Steve Colley, who mentors him at Rockdale, said he was progressing well. "It's about having fun and letting Jeremy develop his game," Colley said.
"Jeremy trains here twice a week: on Tuesdays, we do the individual coaching and on Fridays, Jeremy trains in the squad."
Colley said it was important for young players to enjoy the game and have fun.
He believes as coach to promote a "stress-free" environment for juniors to learn the game and not feel overburdened with expectation.
Jeremy has been coached by Colley for a little more than two years.
The St George Christian School year 4 student said he enjoyed playing tennis and learning from his coach.
"It was good experience for me training with players my age group at the Gold Coast camp," Jeremy said.
