She has dipped in salt water and felt the adrenaline rush riding the waves.
The Caringbah woman said she started surfing when she was 13.
A few years ago she developed a passion for surf, ocean and landscape photography.
The Sutherland Council lifeguard and Loftus TAFE administration employee decided to start building her own photographic portfolio.
Her passion has led to her own exhibition at Cronulla Central Gallery.
The Soul Surfing Exhibition is at Cronulla Central Gallery, near the library, and opened on September 7. It continues until November 31.
Ms Burns progressed from regional level to represent NSW at the Australian Surf Festival Port Macquarie in 2012.
"Creative expression and my passion for surfing was the catalyst that led me down the art and photography path," Ms Burns said.
"I like to showcase the beauty of the landscapes and what it feels like to be a surfer through surfing drawing and paintings.
"I am happy with the camera snapping the sun rising and setting over the ocean and all the amazing textures and colours, the peace and quiet; being in the moment."
