GETTING rid of old electronics is the fastest growing-waste problem in Australia and Storage King has become part of the solution.
Storage King now has e-waste recycling boxes at its Hurstville and Kurnell stores.
Pick up an e-waste recycling box from either site, fill it with old computers, printers and mobiles, and return it to Storage King, where it will be responsibly and ethically recycled to the highest environmental standards.
Actor Gyton Grantley, best known for his role as Carl Williams in Underbelly and Kane in House Husbands, has filmed a video explaining what can and cannot go into the recycling box and believes this will go a long way in helping keep e-waste out of landfill.
"For about the price of a cup of coffee, the e-waste recycling box is a convenient and inexpensive way for residents to do the right thing with their unwanted electronics, rather than leaving them lying around the house, in sheds, or even worse, throwing them in the bin," Grantley said.
The idea was developed in partnership with MobileMuster and ECOACTIV.
MobileMuster is a government accredited non-profit mobile phone recycling program funded by mobile phone companies.
The aim is to keep old mobiles and accessories out of landfill and ensure they are recycled safely and ethically.
Nothing is resold and all data is destroyed.
ECOACTIV manages the product life-cycle for reuse, remarketing and recycling to make sure the collected e-waste is processed responsibly.
MobileMuster recycling manager Rose Read said more than 90 per cent of the collected materials would be used in making new products.
A recycling box can be bought for $3.50 in store, filled with any old mobiles, laptops, power cords and accessories and returned to Storage King.
