The multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) can carry patients weighing up to 300kg and have the space and equipment to ensure they can be supported by paramedics.
It can also be used for general patient transport.
Health Minister Jillian Skinner said seven new ambulances, each costing $152,000 to fit out were being added to the fleet.
The others will be based at Penrith and in country centres.
