A police media release reveals the pilot made a distress call around 11.35am, reporting his 1970s model plane experiencing mechanical difficulties. The pilot reported he was near Wombeyan Caves but search teams tracked the plane to the edge of Morton National Park.
The plane was found in a bushland clearing at Touga, north of Nerriga, around 1pm.
The male pilot and the sole occupant was airlifted from the scene for precautionary medical checks.

3pm: The pilot has been taken to Wollongong hospital with only minor injuries.
Illawarra district NSW Ambulance Inspector Terry Morrow said the man had emerged from the plane "unscathed," and had been airlifted to Wollongong hospital as a precaution.
"He has a minor laceration to his arm," Insp Morrow said. "We took the helicopter down as a precaution, and they have brought him back to hospital."
Insp Morrow said he was first notified of the crash around 1.45pm, and the pilot was transported from the scene at 2.15pm.
2.45pm: The pilot who crash landed in the Morton National Park reportedly made a distress call at 12.30pm, from near Wombeyan Caves.
Peter Gibson, corporate communication manager for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, said the pilot had broadcast a mayday call, reporting engine failure, around 12.30pm.
At the time, the pilot and his Cessna 206 was reportedly around the Wombeyan Caves area - around 60 kilometres from where the plane was found, on the outskirts of the national park near Touga.
Mr Gibson said the pilot had suffered only minor injuries.
Wollongong hospital staff said the pilot is currently en route to hospital via road ambulance.
2:30pm: Police have found the light aircraft on the outskirts of the Morton National Park, near Touga.
The pilot is being treated by medical staff for minor injuries, after reportedly crash landing in the forest.
2pm: Police are responding to reports of a light plane crash near Nowra.
Shoalhaven police confirmed crews were en route to the Morton National Park, around 20 kilometres west of Nowra, after reports of a light plane crash.
It is understood the pilot suffered head injuries, but is in contact with emergency services.
