CHAMPION sailor Kay Cottee returned to a familiar setting last week — her former school at Kogarah.
She was at Moorefield Girls High School, which named its library in her honour, to chat to year 10 students about the importance of setting life goals. In 1988, aged 34, Ms Cottee was the first woman to make a non-stop solo circumnavigation of the world.
Her visit was part of the school's annual involvement with the Beacon Foundation. The event encouraged teenagers to follow their career choices.
The non-profit organisation, which was established to tackle youth unemployment, aims to motivate students to finish school, further their education, or choose a positive pathway for employment.
Beacon works with 118 schools in Australia.
