OATLEY MP Mark Coure is warning people who steal car spaces for people with a disability that the state government is introducing a demerit point penalty on top of the existing fine.

He said that anyone caught parking in a disability car spot without holding a valid mobility parking sticker would receive a $519 fine and a demerit point penalty.
"This is not negotiable," Mr Coure said. "These are some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
"We as a government will not stand for the careless actions of able-bodied people who steal disabled car parks for their own convenience.
"They deny vulnerable members of the our local community close access to facilities such as shops and hospitals and adequate room to get in and out of their vehicles."
Mr Coure said people who parked in disabled car parks needed to know the demerit point penalty could contribute towards licence suspension and make drivers ineligible for discounted driver's licence renewal fees and reduced insurance premiums.
"We want the demerit point to make people think twice before they deny disabled people of these critical car parks," he said.
