Recycle scheme worry
THE NSW government is seeking to claim a mandate to introduce a container deposit scheme (Leader, February 26), blatantly promoting the technical "wow factor" of reverse vending machines, while concealing the costs by postponing release of the details.
I fear that this will be another shambles for the elderly, like the ill-planned new train timetable with its platform changes at Hurstville, which makes it an exhausting trek for shire residents to attend early medical appointments at Kogarah.
I no longer drive for medical reasons and I worry about the effort involved in reclaiming deposits.
Even those of us who could afford to abandon the deposit to the council would probably have to defend their recycling bins against marauding pilferers.
Unless the details are [released], I do not believe that Mr Baird could claim a mandate.
