Goalkeeper Jake Soutter is living his dream.
He is in England after signing with Fulham FC’s academy on a pathway to a professional career.
Jake, 16, of Rockdale, moved there last year to accept a three-year deal with the London club.
Jake, who stands 195 centimetres tall, trains with Fulham FC’s under-21 squad and first team goalkeepers, and plays for the academy under-18s team.
Fulham’s highly sort after and successful category one academy compete in England’s top-flight Premier Academy League.
“Being away from home is a challenge but this is what I want, and I am really enjoying my football and made some good mates here at Fulham now,’’ Jake said.
‘‘Training alongside World Cup finalist Maarten Stekelenburge of the Netherlands and other international goalkeepers is unreal.
‘‘The opportunity to join Fulham FC was too good to refuse.’’
Jake’s dad Todd said his son had settled well in the new environment.
‘‘The news that Jake is is being recognised by the Italian FA and the Australian Football Federation Australia is exciting,’’ Soutter said.
Jake is a former student of Marist College Kogarah who played with Rockdale City Raiders in the St George Football Association.
The teenager then played in the Premier Youth League, a year above his age for four years, winning a grand final and Manchester United Cup along the way.
‘‘Jake represented NSW in the Football Federation Australia and Primary Schools Sports Association teams at national titles, also above his age.’’ Soutter said.
European scouts had spotted Jake.
‘‘He was only 13 when he was invited to England to trial,’’ Soutter said.
‘‘Jake was requested back to England several times to be closely monitored until he was old enough to sign.
‘‘On turning 16, Jake received offers by four high profile clubs.
‘‘The decision was made to accept Fulham FC’s offer.’’
