Oatley Bay homeowners need to show restraint

I agree with "Creeping intrusion" (You View, April 28), especially about how the waterfront is becoming a mess because of poor development control.

I've lived on the other side of Oatley Bay for decades and continually watch the race to see who can build the biggest McMansion. A two-storey house has just been replaced by a community hall-style building and a single-storey brick bungalow replaced by a four-storey monolith.

It seems people love the area, move here then change what they can and either the council doesn't care or so-called independent certifiers (paid by the property owner) are involved so the council has no control. Wait till you see what happens if the council gets its new draft plans through and the effect that will have on increasing density.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but common sense and common courtesy appear not to be so common. Unless restraint is shown or good sense displayed by the council I dread to see how this neighbourhood and its beautiful waterways will end up.
