The son and accused killer of AFL coach Phil Walsh has spent his young life travelling the world in search of deeper spiritual meaning and written of admiring his father's incredible work ethic, something he felt he could never match.
In a vast collection of online diaries, comments and videos spread across the internet and beginning when he was about 20 years old, Cy Walsh has little to say about his family, but speaks of how he couldn't keep up with his father's "iron will power" in everything he did.
"He can wake up incredibly early, own his 50 hour+ per week job, run every day, drop vices like it's no big deal (6 months no alcohol), and study Japanese on the side without flinching," Cy wrote in June 2013.
"The fact remains: I cannot force myself to study as hard as my father despite his undeniably more rigorous schedule."
The 26-year-old self-described "nomad", now charged with his father's murder, was also fixated on finding "the stillness", on fitness, on picking up women, at one time on video gaming and later with discovering spiritual enlightenment.
He writes of wanting to live life to its fullest, becoming a guitar player, a blogger, a teacher, a writer, mastering yoga and Japanese, excelling at Crossfit, and bartending. "I want it ALL," he wrote.
Preoccupied with self improvement, Cy jumped so deep into the pursuit for enlightenment and peace that he used a flotation tank to help him meditate and see visions.
His experiences are all documented on extensive personal websites, which have since been deleted, where he describes exploring the world to experiment with fasting, detox, and alternative medicine to battle a "life crisis".
"I walked that spiritual path for nearly a whole year, alone... that reflection continues" he wrote in August 2013.
Cy documented achieving a "natural altered state" after 96 hours fasting on green tea, coffee, and water, and of broadening his understanding of the universe by ingesting ayahuasca, an Amazon drink known for its hallucinatory affects.
"Is it possible that these medicines could help bring back the balance between human and nature?" he wrote.
Some of his travel experiences ended up on YouTube, where he uploaded videos taken near the India-Pakistan border, on a motorbike trip through Vietnam, on a boat docked at a Peruvian port, and visiting a gypsy family in a make-shift shack set up in the Indian desert.
In another video, he films his "incredible" experience smoking hash with an Indian spiritual guide.
His Amazon reading wish list fluctuates from titles like Man's Search for Meaning, to Building Wealth One Step at a Time, and Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How it Can Help you Find - and Keep – Love.
Cy lists his education on a couchsurfing website as a Diploma in Japanese and post graduate studies in IT and his hometown as Geelong, Victoria.
He writes of living overseas in Japan on exchange in 2007, returning to Australia and then travelling around South East Asia for three months before heading to India, South American and North America.
"Now I am back home with parents and want to give back and meet some people," he said.
As he grappled with learning Japanese and picking up young women in 2009, Cy wrote: "I believe the line from batman goes something like this: 'its not who we are underneath, but our actions that define us'".
In July 2012, shortly after crossing the border from Colombia to Ecuador in South America, Cy described "sitting on the edge of a huge shift in my life," and deliberating whether he should chase money or love, concerned he was "setting myself up to be a failure," he wrote.
"I have found this time to be riddled with anxiety and inertia as I try to figure out the best path to take. The best road to walk... What do I want to achieve with the time that I have?"
Three months later, in October 2012, Cy was by his father's side when a minibus ran though him in a Peruvian town, fracturing the coach's pelvis and collarbone, according to a News Ltd story.
The near tragedy had prompted Mr Walsh, then an assistant coach at West Coast, to make changes to his life and set a list of goals he wanted to achieve in life, which had included quitting alcohol and learning to speak fluent Japanese.
