The Cronulla MP joined members of the community at Wanda beach on Sunday in planting trees and shrubs to shore up the dunes system to prevent erosion.
Mr Speakman then drove to Moore Reserve where residents were planting trees, shrubs and perennials along the fence perimeter.
Planet Ark started National Tree Day in 1996 as an opportunity for people to do something positive for their local environment and community, and to reconnect with nature.
Since then, more than 3 million people have planted 21 million trees and plants.
Mr Speakman said the Wanda beach event had become increasingly popular, with up to 1000 trees, plants, shrubs and ground covers planted this year.
