SUNNY Sydney would appear to be the perfect place to take advantage of the free energy available from the big golden orb in the sky.
The sticking point for many people is that the technology used to harness said energy isn't free.
But Origin Energy has a new way for Sydney households to go solar without having to fork out the money to buy a solar photovoltaic system.
Under Solar as a Service, Origin installs and maintains a solar system with no upfront cost to the customer.
Origin executive general manager Phil Craig said the service would open up the market to people who may have thought solar was too expensive.
"Eligible home owners will receive a solar contract rate that is lower than they are paying for energy from the grid, so customers who use a significant amount of electricity during the day can start saving from day one," he said.
"The potential savings customers can make will depend on variables including household location, size of the system, amount of energy consumed during the day and the length of the contract.
"Eligible customers who sign up to Solar as a Service will enjoy a low long-term energy rate, as well as the security of a consistent rate across the duration of the lease term, besides any changes due to CPI increases or the law."
Lease terms of seven, 10 and 15 years are available.
