Scott Morrison's suggestion of a plebiscite on same-sex marriage, and waiting, is flawed on many counts, not least of which is the likelihood that few will turn up having better things to do with their time.
This will leave the yes vote to the people that will benefit most from it, and the no's to select special-interest groups, which could save us all the effort.
Surely a simple focus group study would make this patently obvious and simplify the process of parliamentary adoption.
