Neighbourly is a website designed to foster interaction and conversation between neighbours and community organisations by creating an easy way for them to talk and share online.
Neighbourly users and St George area residents, Tong Wang and Peter Mills met using the social network.
"I believe in the idea of people helping each other," Mr Mills said. "I like the idea that the website exists to help connect people."
Mr Mills is helping Ms Wang to learn how to drive.
"I am learning to drive at the moment and needed a teacher, so I posted a notice on Neighbourly and got replies soon after," Ms Wang said.
"Mr Mills is helping me with driving practise and I really appreciate it."
Neighbourly's country manager Mella Moore said the free website launched in Australia after a successful 18 months in New Zealand.
"Despite us wanting to, most of us have no idea who our neighbours are," she said.
"Neighbourly is a fun, free and user-friendly platform that aims to take us back to the days when the neighbourhood was the original social network."
Ms Wang said she initially joined the site to get information about events and news happening locally.
"I really like the website as I can get replies from the people around me," she said.
"I think people should join it because you can get information and help as well as provide information and help to your real neighbours."
Mr Mills said he joined the website because he enjoyed helping out his neighbours.
"It's a great idea and a great way to meet locals."
