SUTHERLAND Shire builders have won the top four honours in the 2015 Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Housing Awards.
John and Allen Sammut of Sammut Developments won Master Builder of the Year 2015.
They also won the award for Contract Houses $10 million and over for Nautilus, which they built on the foreshore of Burraneer Bay.
The Master Builders Association Young Builder of the Year award and Best Dual Occupancy for $1 million was won by Ciaran Goodman of Cronulla-based Bronxx Constructions.
Allen Sammut said being recognised by the Master Builders Association and winning their top award offers recognition from industry peers and is a fantastic result for a local family business.
"Winning the Master Builder of the Year has been a dream of mine and something Sammut Developments have aspired to win since winning our first MBA award in 1998," Mr Sammut said.
"We pride ourselves in our work and feel fortunate that all of it is within Sutherland Shire.
"We work with an amazing team of local architects and designers, and a fantastic team of again mainly local tradesmen and subcontractors that all contribute to delivering these award-winning products."
Mr Sammut said working on Nautilus — the project that won Contract Houses Over $10 million — was an opportunity to create and deliver Australia's best home in Sutherland Shire.
The home is set over four lots on the foreshore of Burraneer Bay and comprises six levels, three lifts, a 20-car space garage as well as a two-lane bowling alley and private beach.
It also saw the reinstatement of Atwells, an iconic heritage boathouse.
Sammut Developments has won 13 MBA Awards including the latest two.
It has also won 13 HIA Awards including 2012 HIA Winner Australian Apartment Project of the Year, 2011 HIA Winner NSW Apartment Project of the Year and 2004 HIA Australian Development of the Year.
Sutherland Shire mayor Kent Johns congratulated John and Allen Sammut on winning Master Builder of the Year 2015 Award and Ciaran Goodman on winning the Young Builder of the Year Award.
"The priority of this council has been to ensure a quality built environment in keeping with our natural environment," Cr Johns said.
"These awards show us how this can be achieved and should be encouraged.
"I am pleased to commend to council the outstanding achievements of John and Allen Sammut, and Ciaran Goodman for their outstanding achievements and wish them well in their future building projects."
The award winners now go on to the national titles.
