ROCK anglers are being urged to make safety their top priority after two men were swept into the water during separate incidents last weekend.
NSW Police Marine Area Commander, Detective Superintendent Mark Hutchings said rock anglers should take all safety measures when venturing out onto the rocks.
"This past weekend we saw two incidents of anglers being washed from rocks in NSW, one of whom was a highly experienced fisherman," he said.
"Fortunately both men were rescued from the water, thanks to the use of an angel ring and life jacket, which ultimately assisted in keeping them safe until help arrived."
On Sunday, a Worrigee man, 56, was rescued after a large wave swept him into the sea at Little Beacroft Point, north of Jervis Bay.
A Campsie man, 43, was treated for hypothermia after he was found in water at Winney Bay at Copacabana on Sunday.
Detective Superintendent Hutchings said rock fishing can be a risky sport.
"It is critical that rock fishermen take every safety measure before venturing out onto rock platforms, including wearing a life jacket," he said.
"Should you get washed into the water, wearing a life jacket will dramatically increase your chances of survival.
"These simple steps could very well save your life."
