Sutherland Shire Council's ongoing silence about its plans for the future of Caringbah pool is making users increasingly nervous about whether it intends to close the pool.

A heated, outdoor 50-metre Olympic pool is an essential facility for the eastern end of the shire.
The pool is very heavily used for school swimming carnivals. Where would they go if the pool closed, as Sutherland and Engadine pools are also booked out?
This pool must be retained, both for that purpose and also for the squads, swimming club, fitness swimmers, school learn-to-swim groups and so many other users.
I would also question the validity of the attendance statistics quoted in the recent Leader article. Did the council include, for Sutherland and Engadine, those using the gyms etc?
If they did, the figures do not give an honest comparison as there is no gym at Caringbah, with the YMCA gym adjacent. Also, were the low attendance figures for Caringbah meant to show that the pool should be closed, or that it should be upgraded?
To add insult to injury for Caringbah pool patrons, council recently distributed a survey asking us to recommend what improvements should be made at Sutherland and Engadine, but not at Caringbah. The only mention made of Caringbah was to misspell the name as Carringbah!
