CHRISTMAS is supposed to be a happy and exciting time, so it's a shame that for many of us the stress involved with making sure everything runs smoothly overshadows the fun.
But with Christmas still a few weeks away, it's not too late to put stress in the cupboard and enjoy the season.
Start by making lists: gifts, guests, menus, shopping, cards and phone calls.
Pin them on a notice board and tick things off as you go.
The next step: stop trying to do it all yourself.
Give jobs on the lists to everyone in the house so all the pressure doesn't fall on you.
When it comes to gift shopping, grab your list and let your fingers do the walking — on your keyboard.
As the gifts arrive, wrap them and put them away so you don't spend Christmas eve tangled in wrapping paper — and don't forget to get the kids involved with wrapping gifts for other family members.
Now is also a good time to get the kids practising their writing skills by writing out Christmas cards for their friends — then getting started on the cards for the family.
November is also a perfect time to clear out the fridge and pantry to ensure there's plenty of room for Christmas dinner supplies (and leftovers).
Since you've already planned your menu and made your shopping list, start stocking up on all the non-perishables that you'll need so you won't be pushing a heavy shopping trolley through a crowded supermarket carpark at the last minute.
If you have enough freezer space, why not buy the meat now.
Above all, don't be too proud to accept offers of help.
If your guests offer to bring a salad, veggie dish, nibbles, cookies or even a pudding, say yes.
By getting started now and letting others help, you'll be able to relax and enjoy the festive season.
