KEVIN Giles' entry into the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows was accidental but it went on to inform the rest of his life.

And his charitable work within the order has led to him receiving an OAM.
Mr Giles, 86, was 10 when it was decided he and his sister should join a friendly society lodge to learn to express themselves and mix with other people.
They ended up signing up with the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows.
Mr Giles worked in the office of the Auditor General of NSW, becoming assistant Auditor General, but his association with the fundraising side of the Manchester Unity continued.
Over the years Mr Giles held various positions including grand master, grand secretary, director, financial secretary, delegate to the Australia and New Zealand Council and editor of the organisation's magazine.
