A new skin cancer and wound care clinic was launched at HealthOne Sutherland this month.
HealthOne is a centre designed to keep people with chronic illnesses and other complicated long-term conditions out of hospital.
The facility brings together all aspects of the health system to ensure that people have independent access to appropriate health services.
This includes people with chronic disease, frail elderly people and people with a disability.
The clinic will target identification and management of skin cancer and chronic wounds.
Nine general practitioners who successfully completed a six month fellowship were at the launch on May 6.
An additional 13 graduates recently started the program, and there have been more than 200 patients participate since February this year.
Integrated Care Manager Linda Soars said the service was a powerful tool that would promote efficiency, reduce cost, improve access and maintain improved standards of care.
“This project has successfully delivered reduced waiting times to diagnosis and treatment, and engagement with specialists and GPs,” she said.
“We have had more than 400 patients through integrated care programs and can report outstanding health outcomes.”
