Friday, May 20, marks Wear Your Lifejacket To Work Day to raise awareness of safe boating.
Transport for NSW spokesman Neil Patchett said wearing a lifejacket was crucial for anyone out on the water.
“90% of boating deaths in NSW could have been prevented if the victim was wearing a lifejacket,’’he said.
“We are aiming to show if it’s easy enough to wear a lifejacket to work, then it’s easy enough to wear one on the water – and it might just save your life.’’
Wear Your Lifejacket To Work Day was initiated by the U.S. National Safe Boating Council and has since expanded into a further 11 countries including Australia.
Participants are encouraged to share photos on social media using the hashtags #grinandwearit and #readysetwearit.
